Senior Lecturer/Lecturer Position in Human Genetics at the University of Cape Town
In recognition of the growth of the discipline in understanding human health and disease, a new permanent post has been created in the Division of Human Genetics in the Faculty of Health Sciences. We seek an outstanding candidate who is suitably qualified to teach various aspects of Human Genetics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and who will carry out research in the field of Human Genetics. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a collaborative fashion as part of a multidisciplinary team. Prior publication in peer-reviewed journals is essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach/co-ordinate the BSc Honours programme and to assist in the development of a new curriculum for the MBChB (Medical undergraduate) programme. The incumbent will also be expected to establish a research profile within the area of Human Genetics, and supervise MSc and PhD students. Research mentorship will be provided by senior members of divisional staff. A PhD and postdoctoral research track record are preferred. In addition, preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in Genetics and Molecular Biology, and especially in Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics.
