Dear friends and colleagues

Following our successful meeting in Cairo I thought it pertinent to
write a note congratulating the organizers particularly the Egyptian
committee for the excellent performance (professor yahia Gad was a
dynamic force in the midst of immense personal pressure, we wish his
father a speedy and complete recovery), the scientific committee led
by Melannie Newport for the great sessions, Charles Rotimi for
always managing to come up with such eminent speakers to the venue
and Branwen Henning for the inspiring idea of a young scientist prize.
The African Society is increasingly showing relevance and vigor.
Hopefully there will be continued activities and functions between
now and the coming conferences that would positively impacts our
continent and the field of human genetics at large.
Finally May I also point to some recent achievements by Society
members: Professor Rotimi for a well deserved new senior position at
the NIH, Dr Hiba S Mohamed for wining the Pfizer/Royal Society
prize for 2007 and professor Yahia Gad for the breakthrough discovery
of establishing the identity of Qeen Hatshepsut through ancient DNA
analysis. These are indeed a source of great pride to the Society.

All best wishes for the new year and the current holiday season

Muntaser Ibrahim
